You are more than a patient, a nurses perspective on humanness

November gave me these words.

No editing. Just the truth as it came out. T

Today, I’m sharing them with you.

I might show up casual, undone, or in a dress.

My nails are never perfectly polished.

I’m not the type to stress.

My kids just made me care a little less.

Some days I’m bare-faced,

and feeling a bit disgraced,

saying sorry for the mess,

but somewhat unashamed.

I prefer to be unfiltered,

than someone who feels tame.

You know I’ve been blessed.

You’ve been here before,

so please… leave your mask at my door.

Take off your shoes, your coat and your blues,

and tell me about the last four months

when you left your narcissistic husband,

unregretfully, in the dust.

Leaving you to bloom,

forgetting you still had room.

I hope I can remind you there’s always a rainbow

after the gloom.

You tell me about your son who passed 6 months ago,

and how there’s still no green grass.

The pain, the darkness, the heaviness that fills the room.

I’m here for it all... we have until noon.

This hour is yours. We aren’t in a hurry,

open the cracks. and let it rush.

You are more than a patient — when the room turns vacant,

the human in me, sees the human in you.

In all the colours you carry… even the blue.
